Summer Letterpress Workshop 11-15 July 2022

Summer Letterpress Workshop 11-15 July 2022

This intensive 5 day course will take you through the steps needed to create a piece of your work using the letterpress printing process, from initial ideas, to typesetting, block making, working with colour, ink, paper and finally printing.

We will cover:
— How to turn your idea into a finished printed piece (or pieces!)
— Typesetting with metal & wood type
— Block making (lino, wood, laser)
— Proofing
— Working with colour & mixing inks
— Paper and paper stocks
— Printing on a proofing press

You will have access to a workshop with an excellent selection of wood & metal type, a hot-metal type-caster, a laser-cutter and three large flat bed proofing presses, two of which (a Vandercook SP20 & Korrex Nuremberg) have inking systems that produce high quality tight register multi colour print work.

The course is aimed at those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of the stages of the letterpress printing process that are needed to successfully realise a project on (and off) press.

Whilst no previous experience is necessary, a background or interest in graphic design, typography and printing processes would be hugely beneficial.

There are two places on the course and enough space for two people to work independently of each other. If you are friends (or family!) you could come as a group of two, or you could come on your own and have access to all the equipment for 5 whole days.

The size of the course has been deliberately kept small to enable you to get the best out of your time here.

The price includes all tuition and standard materials plus as much tea and coffee as you can drink during that time.

The course runs from Monday to Friday 9-5.30pm from the 11-15th July 2022.

Your tutor Nick has spent 20+ years working at the bleeding edge of print as a designer & printer as well as developing & delivering letterpress workshops at festivals, events, schools, colleges and print workshops since 2013.

There are two hotels within walking distance of the workshop, the train station is 5 minutes away and Shipley town centre is 10 minutes walk along the stunning Leeds-Liverpool canal with access to shops, a market, pubs & restaurants.

Please get in touch if you have any questions using the contact form.
